Because of his shadiness he developed a personality that relied heavily on being paranoid most of the time. He only trusted his most loyal friends.

In the book, King Bennett has been hired to solve a murder and the man who could help him most is incredibly paranoid of everything from the government to the mosquito that bit him a week ago. His nickname on the street was Twitchy because of his habit of always looking over his shoulder.
