Clark's Teaberry Gum was a favorite confection of Dean's. At least once in every book Dean would have King mull over clues while chewing on a piece of Teaberry Gum. If you've ever had a piece of this gum, you probably remember its unique flavor.

The story goes that a man who managed a book and smoke shop in New York started to notice that whenever many of his customers bought the latest King Bennett novel they would also buy a pack of Clark's Teaberry Gum. The man's brother just happened to be the advertising director for Clark's and he told him of the odd trend. Clark's knew a good thing when they saw it and offered Dean an endorsement deal. He did a nationwide print ad that appeared in many magazines. This ad can occasionally be found on an Internet auction site with the final bid somewhere in the $6 range.
