First Printing: February 1963 Green Shield Catalog #: B199 In January of 1963 Otto Greenfield tried a new marketing promotion. He'd arranged with his distributor to have all current books in the Green Shield line to be placed in a rotary rack at each store. If you're not familiar with what a rotary rack is, they were similar to the spinning racks that held comic books in five and dime stores. No price was visible on the cover of these paperbacks; the price for any book on the rack was 35 cents. The catch slogan was "Take a spin with a Green Shield book". The graphic at the top of the rack was even cornier. It featured a dapper gentleman and a buxom blonde each enjoying a paperback while riding in a sporty convertible. The only problem was the man obviously had no care about his driving skills since he was too busy reading! |
