First Printing: April 1957 Green Shield Catalog #: B122 This King Bennett classic takes place in beautiful Palm Springs among the rich and elite. At the end of this story Bennett closes up his L.A. office and moves to Las Vegas. In real life Dean decided to base the bulk of all future King Bennett stories in Las Vegas. He moved there so he could have instant research access. Did you notice the misspelling of King's name on the cover? An apprentice designer at Green Shield mistakenly sliced off the second "T" in Bennett during paste-up and it went to print. The first run has the mistake; all print runs after that had it corrected. Otto Greenfield was so ticked off about the incident that he made the designer and art director wear a 72 point letter T pasted to their foreheads for a week. The art director lasted two days into the punishment and quit. The apprentice on the other hand stuck it out and rose to Chief Art Director eight years later. |
