July 1955

There’s an interesting story behind this cover. Kevin Greenfield did much of the production work the company, which included photography and film development. Otto Greenfield one day walked into the darkroom and found Kevin printing photos of young ladies featured in various states of undress. Realizing that his pulp magazine line probably wouldn’t survive the close of the decade, Otto was aware he needed to take his company in a new direction. Playboy had been out for awhile and Greenfield knew what kind of circulation Hugh Hefner was generating. This incident in the darkroom started the ball rolling on the production of Girlie-Q.

That’s actually Otto Greenfield bursting into the darkroom with the gun. Notice also that Dean was so popular with the readers that his name was now featured at the top of the list.
